wooooohoooooo i'm back and by request this time, so whoever doesn't like the fact can bring it up with Carl =)
this time around we have The Quireboys new one "Well Oiled." *sniff sniff i'm tearing up here a little it's been so long since I have done one of these* The Quireboys current line-up consists of the three original members, Spike, guitarist Guy Griffin and bassist Nigel Mogg, plus new additions Keith Weir (keyboards), Paul Guerin (guitars) and drummer Pip. (boy, someone must have lost a bet or something with that name - "I bet you Carl really DOES like Roxx Gang or I will go by the name Pip from now on") anyway, you might want to sit down for this, I actually like this cd. not my favorite by them, that's still What You Fancy, but I would rate this one second best right ahead of Bitter Sweet. it has more of a mature *gasp* sound to it. where What You Fancy was the sound track to the late night parties at the practice space with about 100 people, 2 kegs of beer and lots of chicks (you were at them Drew don't try to deny it), Well Oiled is more of a thursday night at the local corner bar, pool table, cheap beer and one chick *cuz that's all we need anymore right *
well here goes:
1 good to see you = very good song, good groove, best on the cd
2 the finer stuff = solid song
3 lorraine lorraine = solid song
4 too familiar = slower song in the quireboys slowness vein, very good
5 you've got a nerve = solid song
6 what's your name = not that good of a song
7 sweet as the brain = ok song (reminds me of beast of burden a little or I would say it was a bad song)
8 the last fence = very good song, upbeat, rocker
9 black mariah = alright song, neither here nor there, should have ended with the last fence
overall it is a really good cd, short but still really good. totally reminds me of classic rock and roll like a cross between hot rocks era rolling stones (when they were fkn gods), bon scott era AC/DC, and old rod stewart (the voice). Spike sounds as good as ever, hasn't lost it a bit. If you like the Quireboys I would highly recommend this one. If you like straight ahead basic rock and roll I would recommend this. If you have 15 bucks you are looking to part with well you could certainly do worse then this cd. If you don't like the Quireboys well then I don't think I have to tell you what to do.
****good night Sea-Sea's.....remember to tip your bartenders and waitresses, buy the drummer a drink and drive home safely.

Cool review on that bill. Have this myself and really like it. That guitar player Paul Guerin was in a band called the Red Dogs before. They were a band along the same lines as the Quireboys. I saw The Quireboys on the Monsters of Rock in 2002 here in the Uk. I think at that time Jason Bonham was occupying the drum stool.
